Garage on Hyacinthstraat Closed After GHB Was Found
Mayor Nadine Stemerdink closed a garage on Hyacinthstraat yesterday after a large commercial quantity (more than 300 doses) of the hard drug GHB was discovered there. Pursuant to Article 13b of the Opium Act (the Damocles Act), the garage has been closed for three months.

The Leiden-Zuid Police discovered the drugs after stopping the driver of a moped near the garage. When the police officers entered the garage, they detected a chemical odor. They also found items that indicated the storage and production of narcotics.
Public Order, Safety, and Public Health
“The production and trafficking of drugs seriously undermine public order, safety, and public health,” says Mayor Nadine Stemerdink. “That is why we will continue to combat these types of activities. Thank you to the Leiden-Zuid Police for their decisive action. This discovery and the closure of the operation prevented the drugs from ending up on the streets and averted an unsafe situation in the neighborhood.”
