The Velostrada bike path may be upgraded
The municipality of Voorschoten is working with the province of South Holland to determine whether the Velostrada—the bike path between Leidschendam and Leiden—can be further improved. Councilwoman Erika Spil is pleased with this plan: “It’s fantastic that we’re going to continue working on the Velostrada together with the province of South Holland .”

The Velostrada was constructed between 2010 and 2013 as a regional bike route connecting Leiden and The Hague. The route has been a success: it is heavily used and is getting busier all the time. That is why the municipality of Voorschoten and the province are taking a close look this year to see if the bike path can be further improved, so that it meets the latest standards and becomes more recognizable. Ideas include creating wider curves, refurbishing a number of small bridges, removing unevenness in the bike path, and applying clear edge markings along the entire route. Work is not expected to begin until early 2023.
