Bicycle theft
Bicycle theft also occurs in our village. Expensive bicycles such as e-bikes are particularly frequent targets. This page provides information and tips to better protect your bicycle. Together, we can ensure that Voorschoten remains a safe place for cyclists.
Most thefts take place primarily around supermarkets, sports grounds and railway station areas, and during events. In other words, in locations where large numbers of bicycles are parked.
Eye-catching informational bicycles
The Municipality of Voorschoten has placed informational bicycles near the Albert Heijn and Voorschoten station. These bicycles are brightly decorated and provide important information to help people better protect their bicycles against theft.
Practical tips
- Always use a second lock.
- Park your bicycle in a visible location.
- Secure your bicycle to a fixed object, such as a wall anchor or bicycle rack.
- Remove the battery and display from your e-bike, as these parts are frequently targeted for theft.
- Equip your bicycle with a GPS tracker. A GPS tracker (track & trace) can help locate your bicycle.
- Do not leave your bicycle in the same spot for too long.
