Bicycle Theft

We’re also dealing with bicycle thefts in our village. Expensive bikes, such as e-bikes, are particularly prone to theft. On this page, you’ll find information and tips on how to better protect your bike. Together, we can ensure that Voorschoten remains a safe place for cyclists.

Most thefts occur primarily around supermarkets, sports fields, and train station areas, as well as during events—in other words, in places where large numbers of bicycles are parked.  

Eye-Catching Information Bikes

The Municipality of Voorschoten has placed informational bicycles near the Albert Heijn and the Voorschoten train station. These bicycles are brightly decorated and provide important information to help people better protect their bikes from theft.

Practical Tips

  • Always use a second lock.
  • Park your bike where it's visible.
  • Secure your bike to a fixed object, such as a wall anchor or bike rack.
  • Remove the battery and display from your e-bike; these parts are often stolen.
  • Equip your bike with a GPS tracker. A GPS tracker (track & trace) can help you find your bike.
  • Don't leave your bike in the same spot for too long.
