Additional Energy Allowance for Lower-Income Households

The government has decided to increase the energy allowance to €1,300. Households that have already received an €800 energy allowance will automatically receive an additional €500 in September. They do not need to take any action. Residents whose applications are still being processed will receive €1,300 immediately upon approval. Applications for the energy allowance can still be submitted through November 30, 2022.

The energy allowance is a grant and does not need to be repaid. To be eligible for the allowance, there is a maximum income that a household may earn. The amount of that income varies depending on the situation. The table below provides examples of monthly net incomes for different situations.

Applications

You can apply for the energy allowance at www.lv.nl/energietoeslag. The webpage also lists the eligibility requirements, provides a link to the income limits, and explains what information the municipality needs. Since the national announcement of the allowance increase, the municipality has used this time to make a local decision and ensure the payment is properly arranged.

Employees can also work with them to figure out financial matters and, for example, contact the energy provider.
