Heritage education for children
There are various heritage projects in our municipality specially developed for children aged 4 to 12. By learning and doing, they can discover more about the history of our municipality and understand why their living environment looks the way it does. Below is a selection of projects that the municipality has (co-)developed and warmly recommends to you.
DE Canon van Voorschoten
DE Canon van Voorschoten tells the story of the history of Voorschoten, from prehistory to the present. Many authors and advisors have contributed to telling this story clearly and engagingly. Accessibility, readability, and clarity of the text were paramount. It was not the intention to cover the entire history or to produce a scientific publication with numerous footnotes. All authors have strived to tell a clear, understandable, and readable story without too many details and with attractive illustrations. It is up to the website users to judge whether they have succeeded.
archaeology takes shape
archaeology-Workbook for grades 7 and 8.
Meet Kars, a man who was murdered nearly 4,000 years ago in the dunes of Wassenaar, and Trude, who lived in a castle in Voorschoten. How did people live thousands of years ago? Where did the Romans live, and what did their fort look like?
“archaeology Gets a Face” is a booklet created for grades 7 and 8 about archaeology. It’s educational and fun—even for adults—and tells a lot about the earliest history of Voorschoten, Leidschendam-Voorburg, and Wassenaar.

The booklet was commissioned by the Pact of Duivenvoorde, a partnership between the municipalities of Voorschoten, Leidschendam-Voorburg, and Wassenaar, and was part of the “ archaeology ” exhibition in 2009.

Scavenger hunt into the past of country estates
Quiz for children in grades 6 through 8.
A quiz has been created with fun information about country estates. Questions such as: “Do you know what a country estate is? EN what people used to do there?” are answered in a playful way. This way you will learn more about the many country estates in EN municipality.

Educational package for primary schools (grades 1 through 8).
Want to learn everything at your own level about farmers and EN landscape of Voorschoten, Leidschendam, Voorburg, and Wassenaar? You can with this educational package! EN educational package consists of a folder with 12 lessons for all grades, a DVD with five short films that connect to EN lessons, a book, and various accompanying material including some games.

Dive into EN dunes
Educational package for pupils in grade 5 and 6.
Embark on a voyage of discovery through the dune area between Scheveningen and Katwijk. In this area, you will find many traces of people from the past. Find answers to questions such as: what are dunes, how are they formed, and what do people use the dunes for? The lessons include practical assignments on various themes, such as animals, water, war, agriculture, and recreation. An outdoor lesson can also be organized, given by instructors from Dunea and Staatsbosbeheer.

Accompanying the forest ranger
Schools and groups can request a walk with a forest ranger by sending an email with their preferences to hollandsduin@staatsbosbeheer.nl. Staatsbosbeheer also regularly organizes excursions. These can be found in the Outdoor Calendar on the Staatsbosbeheer website.
