Energy Allowance Wrongly Paid to 160 Residents
Something went wrong with the payment of the 2023 energy allowance to residents of Leidschendam-Voorburg, Voorschoten, and Wassenaar. Approximately 160 residents of the three municipalities received the energy allowance even though they were not eligible for it.
This applies to residents under the age of 21, as well as residents who still live at home and therefore do not have their own energy contract. Due to an error in the selection process, their information was included in the automatic payment.
We regret this error and are working on a solution to prevent such errors in the future. Residents affected by this issue will receive a letter from the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg containing an apology and a request to repay the energy allowance they received in error. We realize that it won’t be easy for everyone to repay the money immediately. If the money has already been spent, we will work together to find a solution. If residents are facing financial difficulties, we will explore ways to help them.
We are working hard to process the 2023 energy allowance payments. In total, the energy allowance has been paid out automatically approximately 5,174 times. Residents who are eligible for the energy allowance but did not receive it automatically can apply for it no later than February 1, 2024.
