Emigration, moving abroad
You must notify the municipality if you plan to move abroad (emigrate) for at least 8 months out of the next 12 months. This period does not have to be consecutive. You will then be deregistered from your address. If you are moving abroad for a period shorter than 8 months, you do not need to notify the municipality.
Important: It is not possible to obtain a document from the municipality containing information about your departure the day after you leave. This can only be done at one of the RNI service desks.
How does it work?
A move abroad can only be arranged online if all the residents of that address move at the same time.
If there are several people registered at your address and not everyone is moving abroad, then everyone who plans to emigrate must go to city hall to report this in person. In this case, children under the age of 18 must also go to city hall.
Who can help arrange a move abroad?
- Everyone over the age of 16.
- Parents, guardians, or caregivers of children under the age of 16.
- Parents and their adult children can arrange this for each other only if they are registered at the same address and all move at the same time.
- Spouses and registered partners can make these arrangements for each other, provided they are moving abroad together.
- The guardian may notify the municipality regarding individuals who are under guardianship.
You cannot authorize someone else to arrange your emigration.
What should I do?
Notify the municipality no later than 5 days before your departure. Provide the municipality with the following information:
- The names and dates of birth of all family members who are emigrating.
- Your old address.
- Your new address.
- The date of emigration.
What do I need?
- Visiting City Hall in person
- Valid identification
- By written notice
- The form of the municipality
- Your signature on the form
- A copy of your valid identification
How long does it take?
The municipality will update your information immediately. This means you will be removed from the registry on the day you arrange your emigration, not on the date of departure.
Arrange it online
The municipality of Voorschoten uses DigiD. For more information about DigiD
DigiD stands for Digital Identity and is used to conduct business with a (semi)governmental organization online. Anyone who has a citizen service number (BSN number) and is registered in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP) can apply for a DigiD.

Currently, users can only log in using the national digital identity systems of the following EU member states: Belgium, Germany, Estonia, Italy, Croatia, Luxembourg, and Spain.
