First naturalization ceremony held since the coronavirus pandemic

Things had been on hold for a while, but now naturalization can be celebrated once again. On Thursday, October 28, a naturalization ceremony was held in Voorschoten for the first time in months. This is the moment when newcomers officially receive Dutch citizenship. Today’s ceremony was extra special because it was also Mayor Nadine Stemerdink’s first naturalization ceremony since taking office. As of today, no fewer than 16 residents of Voorschoten can officially call themselves Dutch citizens.

During the ceremony, the candidates took an oath of allegiance, pledging to respect the rights and obligations that come with Dutch citizenship. The ceremony concluded with a friendly get-together over a cup of coffee and some treats.
