A sustainable building and schoolyard

Schools make a significant contribution to achieving a sustainable Voorschoten. School boards can take measures on their own initiative to reduce CO2 emissions. The municipality aims to support school boards where possible in implementing as many measures as possible. 

With small measures, it is possible to start saving energy immediately. For a large-scale approach, it is important to clarify what savings are achievable. The municipality is committed to a prompt follow-up together with the schools, so that the potential savings can actually be realised.

There are various sustainable initiatives in which schools can participate:

Schools can already do a lot for energy savings themselves without major investments. Small measures to make your school more sustainable right away:

  • Adjusting heating and ventilation to match the school's operating hours
  • Regular (annual) maintenance of ventilation systems (replacing dirty filters)
  • Replacing old, inefficient equipment (refrigerators, computers, coffee makers)
  • Behaviour coaching for the team and students (turning off computers, beamers, digital boards, lighting, closing windows and doors in winter, setting heating to level 2-3)
  • Use of energy-efficient lighting
  • Balancing the heating system
  • Use of thermostatic radiator valves
  • Use of monitoring

Financing options

Schools can make use of various existing subsidies:

  • ISDE subsidy for the application of sustainable heat generation, such as heat pumps, solar water heaters, and insulation;
  • SDE++ subsidy for solar panels on a large-consumer connection;
  • The province of Zuid-Holland offers the Zonnig Zuid-Holland scheme. This is a subsidy for installing solar panels on large roofs with insufficient load-bearing capacity for standard panels.
