When making monuments more sustainable, the municipality applies the guidelines of the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE). Monuments and other characteristic historical buildings are sustainable by nature. They are often centuries old and no longer pollute the environment due to their highly efficient use of materials. The maintenance of monuments is also sustainable: the preservation of historical materials, techniques, and details always takes precedence over replacement. Where possible, local, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly products are used.

However, there are opportunities to make historical buildings even more sustainable. To help you explore the possibilities, the municipality makes the Green Menu Map Voorschoten available.

Green Menu Map Voorschoten

There are many ways to further make a historical building more sustainable. There may be more possible than you think. The municipality has entered into a partnership with Stichting De Groene Grachten. This was originally an initiative by Wubbo Ockels to make Amsterdam's historic canal ring more sustainable. The specially developed Green Menu Map is now also available and custom-made for Voorschoten.

The Green Menu Map Voorschoten shows you, based on various themes, what options, tips, and tricks are available for making historical buildings more sustainable. Custom solutions remain key, especially for protected monuments. Use the Green Menu Map to compile a wishlist. Then make an appointment with the municipality for more information about the possibilities, licences, financial support, and more.

The Green Menu Map Voorschoten is part of the heritage policy, but aligns with the municipal Environmental Policy Plan 2012-2016. The municipality aims to reduce its own CO2 emissions and encourage the community to contribute to energy conservation and the generation of renewable energy. In addition to the Green Menu Map for historical buildings, owners of other residential properties can use the energy desk.
