Letting pigeons out to fly

If you want to release your pigeons, you must keep in mind that pigeons are not always allowed to fly out. In the spring, wild pigeons often cause damage to farmers' fields. Therefore, the municipality may set a period during which you must keep your pigeons inside, so that hunters can thin out the population of wild pigeons. That period can last for a week, or, for example, 1 day a week. The municipality consults with homing pigeon associations about this in advance.

If you want to let your pigeons fly during the same period, you need an exemption from the municipality.

How does it work?

Do you want to let pigeons fly? Please note that you cannot release the pigeons at any time you wish. The province of Zuid-Holland determines the times when it is forbidden to let pigeons fly out.

For the content of the ban, reference is made to the provincial Regulation on the confinement of homing pigeons: www.zuid-holland.NL
