Disposing of a Dead Animal
What is it?
Different rules apply to the removal of dead animals (carcasses), depending on the type of animal and the circumstances.
What should I do?
Dead animal in the water
If you see dead fish or dead waterfowl in the water, please report it to the water board. Do not remove these animals from the water yourself.

Dead animal on the side of the road
If you see a dead animal by the roadside or elsewhere, please notify the municipality or the animal rescue service.
Dead pet
Do not throw your deceased pet in the trash. Not even if it is a small animal. Instead, you can do one of the following:
- You can take it to the Avalex recycling center.
- You can have it buried or cremated.
- You may bury it in your own yard or on your own property. The grave must be at least 75 centimeters deep. You may not wrap the dead animal in plastic or other materials that are harmful to the soil.
Death of a pet
Has your pony, goat, or sheep died? Report this immediately to Rendac, an authorized rendering company. This company will pick up the carcass and dispose of it. Only the carcass of a horse may also be cremated at a special pet crematorium. A pet may not be buried on your own property.
Injured or dead roe deer
If you see an injured or dead roe deer by the roadside or elsewhere, please notify the police. The police will contact the roadkill coordinator at the responsible Wildlife Management Unit. The roadkill coordinator will remove the injured or dead roe deer.
