Clearing away a dead animal
What is it?
Different rules apply to the removal of dead animals (carcasses), depending on the type of animal and the circumstances.
What to do?
Dead animal in the water
Do you see dead fish or dead water birds in the water? Report this to the water authority. Do not remove these animals from the water yourself.

Dead animal along the road
Do you see a dead animal along the road or in another location? Then notify the municipality or the animal ambulance.
Dead pet
Do not throw your dead pet in the garbage bin, even if it is a small animal. Instead, you can do one of the following:
- You can take it to the Avalex recycling center.
- You can have it buried or cremated.
- You can bury it in your own garden or on your own property. The grave must be at least 75 centimetres deep. You must not wrap the dead animal in plastic or other materials that are harmful to the soil.
Dead hobby animal
Has your pony, goat or sheep died? Report this immediately to the approved processing company Rendac. This company collects and processes the carcass. Only the carcass of a horse may also be cremated in a special pet crematorium. A hobby animal may not be buried on private property.
Injured or dead roe deer
Do you see an injured or dead roe deer along the road or in another location? Then notify the police. The police will contact the wildlife coordinator of the responsible Wildlife Management Unit. The wildlife coordinator will remove the injured or dead roe deer.
