Adapted rules for dogs

Dogs are welcome in Voorschoten!

There are a variety of dog-walking routes. There are also places where you can let your dog run free. However, dogs can sometimes be a nuisance. Dog waste is the number one public annoyance. People may also be unhappy if your dog is not on a leash. Therefore, the municipality has established rules and regulations for everyone—dog owners and others—to minimize the inconvenience as much as possible. Dog owners must carry a “pooper-scooper” with them at all times. You must be able to show that you have paper or plastic bags or a small scoop with you. And you must clean up after your dog.

Places where you can let your dog run free

Fines

Supervisors in public areas can fine you for letting your dog off the leash where it is not permitted. These fines can be imposed in the following situations:

• Not cleaning up after your dog;
• Off-leash where it is not permitted;
• Being present in a location where it is prohibited;
• Not having the necessary supplies on hand to clean up after your dog.

Dog Tax

Effective January 1, 2024, the dog tax in Voorschoten has been abolished, and there will be no more taxes.
