Our municipality

Voorschoten received markt rights as early as 1282 from Count Floris V of Holland. Since then, the Voorstraat has been the heart of our village, with its picturesque facades, stately linden trees, and famous village pump.

We are the village of Duivenvoorde Castle, the Cultuurfabriek, and the sisters at Huize Bijdorp. Of athletes and volunteers. Of over 26,000 committed residents and bon vivants. We are a green oasis amidst major cities. A village with a village character, a metropolitan mentality, and strong local governance.

Organisational structure

Within our municipality, we operate under an organizational structure consisting of three departments: Services, Operations, and Administration. Each department focuses on the specific clients it serves: our residents, our colleagues, and the executive board.

Our core values—trust, responsibility, involvement, and enjoyment—form the foundation of our organisation. We work hard to create a professional and business-like working environment within an informal and familial culture.
