Cultuurfabriek and the municipality present a new village song
The municipality of Voorschoten has a new village song. It will be sung for the first time on Saturday morning, September 13, at the opening of the Voorschoten Weekend at the Kruispuntkerk. The Cultuurfabriek commissioned Ine Duijnkerke to write the lyrics and Rob Balfoort to compose the music.
For many years, Voorschoten had a village song that we were proud of. It was part of our village and our history, and we enjoyed singing along to it. At the same time, we noticed that the lyrics and melody were too difficult for some people. That’s why there’s now a new song with a cheerful melody that people of all ages can easily sing along to at any time.
During a celebration, commemoration, or sporting event
Councilman Hans van der Elst is looking forward to the very first performance: “Voorschoten has a rich history, plenty of green spaces, a vibrant community life, and a strong sense of community. Thanks to the new village song, we can all show—or rather, let everyone hear—how that brings us together, whether it’s during a celebration, a commemoration, or a sports event. It’s a gift to the village, one that we can sing together for many years to come.”
Made in and for Voorschoten
The new village song was created in and for Voorschoten. The lyrics were written by Ine Duijnkerke. Ine is a writer, speaker, and teacher, as well as the chair of Poëzie Voorschoten. With her golden pen, she brings the new village song to life. Rob Balfoort composed the music. Rob has been involved in music since a young age, from playing the piano and trumpet to conducting the Laurentius Music Association for many years.
