The " centre " cultural event at Kruispuntkerk is getting closer and closer

A large theater hall, also suitable for film screenings. Spaces for rehearsals, lectures, and meetings, and a café-restaurant with a terrace. These are just a few of the possible new amenities for the new cultural “ centre ” in the Kruispuntkerk in Voorschoten. This week, the “ municipal council ” approved the plans of the “ executive board ” to further develop the “ centre ” project.

Alderman Paul de Bruijn: “These plans will make a significant contribution to the cultural offerings in Voorschoten. The church will soon provide space for the cultural organizations dedicated to music, theater, dance, and film that are currently housed on Prinses Marijkelaan. But other organizations will also be able to use these facilities. With the new ‘ centre ,’ we aim to forge a connection between well-being and culture, creating a space for experience, encounter, and connection.”

In addition to well-being and culture, there will also be space for housing. A new residential complex is planned on the site of the Kruispuntkerk’s current annex. These developments in and around the church will further enhance the entrance to Schoolstraat and the “ centre ” in Voorschoten.

Feasibility

Over the past few months, the municipality of Voorschoten has been investigating whether it is feasible to create a new cultural centre in the Kruispuntkerk. In collaboration with cultural organizations, they examined the wishes and requirements for the centre, and based on that, a layout sketch for the church was drawn up. They also assessed the costs involved in bringing this project to fruition. The feasibility study shows that the plans still need some refinement, but that it appears possible to create an attractive centre within the Kruispuntkerk.

Cultural organizations in Voorschoten are also enthusiastic about the plans. They see the various facilities at the new “ centre ” as an opportunity to work together to create a vibrant space for all residents of Voorschoten. The organizations are therefore more than willing to actively participate in the further development of the plans.

Information Night

An information evening will be held in May to discuss the plans with interested parties. More information will follow later. Based in part on the feedback gathered at that time, the plans will be further developed in collaboration with the cultural institutions. At the end of December, the “ municipal council ” will make the final decision regarding the development of the Kruispuntkerk.
