Collection
If you want to raise money for a charity, you need a permit from the municipality. A distinction is made between national and non-national organizations. National organizations are generally exempt from municipal requirements; this used to be called a “permanent permit.” Non-national organizations, such as a local association, may only collect donations during designated periods.
How does it work?
The municipality wants to ensure that too many fundraisers do not take place at the same time. It keeps track of when fundraisers are held in a fundraising schedule. The municipality will determine whether your fundraiser fits into the schedule.
The municipality will review your application in light of the advice from the Central Bureau for Fundraising (CBF). You can view the national fundraising schedule at on the CBF’s website. You can also view the municipality’s schedule there. Check the fundraising schedule in advance and only then set the date for your fundraising or collection.
What should I do?
You apply for the permit with the municipality.
In your application, you must demonstrate that you will spend the funds raised in a responsible manner for the stated purpose. Please also provide the following information:
- the name of the organization organizing the fundraiser
- a description of the collection
- the period during which you would like to hold the collection
It is advisable to submit your application at least 8 weeks in advance.
How long does it take?
You will be notified within 8 weeks whether you have been granted the permit. If the municipality does not make a decision within this period, you will automatically be granted the permit to collect donations.
File an objection
If you disagree with the municipality's decision, you may file an objection within 6 weeks.

There is no charge for this.
