Mayor Stemerdink Presents the "Pearl of Voorschoten" Award to Mr. Kloosterman
On Thursday, November 30, Mayor Stemerdink presented a “Pearl of Voorschoten” award to Mr. R. (Rob) Kloosterman (78). The award ceremony took place during the end-of-year reception hosted by the Voorschoten Seniors Foundation at Restaurant Hudson on Schoolstraat.
Mr. Kloosterman is receiving the award for his many years of volunteer work for the Voorschoten Senior Citizens’ Magazine. In mid-2008, Mr. Kloosterman took the initiative to put together a newsletter for the senior citizens of Voorschoten. After a trial period of nearly a year during which three newsletters were published, the Voorschoten Senior Citizens Foundation was established in March 2009. The foundation’s goal is to provide seniors in Voorschoten and the surrounding area with informative and entertaining content. It seeks to achieve this, among other things, by compiling, publishing, and distributing the independent—and free—Voorschoten Senior Magazine. Mr. Kloosterman has been a member of the magazine’s editorial board since its inception.
Mr. Kloosterman is responsible for (among other things):
- Final editing of the magazine;
- Coordinating, editing, and publishing up-to-date information from volunteer organizations,
- semi-public institutions and government agencies;
- Coordinating the production and distribution of the magazine;
- Recruiting advertisers for the magazine and contributors/correspondents for the magazine.
In addition, Mr. Kloosterman actively participates in the foundation’s board meetings. Although Mr. Kloosterman is not a member of the board, he serves as an important advisor to the board.
For 15 years now, seniors in Voorschoten have been receiving up-to-date information. To date, there have been 78 issues across 15 volumes, with a print run of 4,000 copies.
