Mayor Stemerdink Presents a Royal Honor to Ms. Van der Krogt-Duivenvoorde

On Sunday afternoon, July 2, 2023, Mayor Stemerdink will present a royal honor to Ms. P. van der Krogt-Duivenvoorde (age 67). Ms. Van der Krogt-Duivenvoorde has been volunteering with the Laurentius Music Association for over 30 years. The presentation will take place during Laurentius’s annual park concert in Burgemeester Berkhout Park.

A Lifetime of Music

Ms. Van der Krogt’s musical career can be described, in a word, as impressive. On April 1, 1963, as a 7-year-old girl, she joined the Harmonie Laurentius. After a brief introduction to drumming, she was already able to march in the Queen’s Day parade in honor of Queen Juliana on April 30, 1963. She was a percussionist with the Drumfanfare, served as tambour-maître for several years, and then made the switch to the baritone, which she still plays today. When the Concert Orchestra was founded in 2014, she combined her musical activities in these two orchestras of the association. But she has also played a significant role in the Sint and Pietenband for many years. She has participated in countless national and international performances, including parades, processions, and military reviews. Together with the association, she has also won several major prizes and awards, such as at the World Music Competition.

Volunteer Work

Ms. Van der Krogt has also been active behind the scenes of the orchestra for many years. As the driving force behind the music association, she has made a tremendous contribution to the organization over the past 60 years. She served as president of the Laurentius Music Association for 21 years and was a board member for 6 years prior to that. It was on her initiative that the Music Kids project was launched, providing music education at elementary schools in Voorschoten. She has taught hundreds of children the basics of making music, both in the rhythm group and through years of giving individual lessons to percussionists.

For over 30 years, Ms. Van der Krogt has been responsible for the substance of music education within the association. Thanks to her, all children with an official music diploma can participate in the various orchestras. Ms. Van der Krogt’s contribution to the Laurentius Music Association has been invaluable in recruiting members, engaging them in the association, and subsequently retaining them as members.

Royal Honor

In addition to her many years of selfless dedication to the Laurentius Music Association, Ms. Van der Krogt is also actively involved in other organizations, including the Red Cross. Ms. Van der Krogt-Duivenvoorde is being honored as a Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau for her contributions to the field of music.
