Mayor Stemerdink and the children from the Voorschoten International Language Class enjoy the Mayor's Breakfast together

The importance of a good, healthy breakfast is high on the public agenda. To highlight this, Mayor Stemerdink had breakfast today with children and teachers from the International Language Class in Voorschoten. All the healthy and delicious items on the breakfast table were provided by Bakker Van Maanen.

Mayor Stemerdink: “A healthy breakfast is an important way to start the day! For adults, but especially for children. A good breakfast contains important nutrients. These provide energy, allowing you to concentrate at work or at school. And your morning grumpiness melts away like snow in the sun! Fortunately, we have a few great bakeries in Voorschoten, as well as plenty of other stores offering healthy and delicious products. Together with the children and their teachers, we made it a fun and nutritious morning!”

From October 9 through 13, 239 mayors across the Netherlands will sit down with local elementary schools to learn about and experience a healthy breakfast. The Mayors’ Breakfast will be a fun and educational morning, during which the mayor will talk with the children about the importance of eating breakfast. Do they eat breakfast every day? What do the children like to eat best? And why is this meal so important?

The Mayor's Breakfast

The Mayor’s Breakfast takes place over the course of a week, in collaboration with municipalities and schools. The event is organized by the National School Breakfast program. It is an opportunity for bakers to showcase their craft and, together with the mayor, to emphasize the importance of a healthy breakfast featuring whole-grain bread.

Start the day off right

The children and the mayor had breakfast together with a breakfast package that meets the current guidelines from the Netherlands Nutrition Center. The package included whole-grain bread, whole-grain rolls, and whole-grain currant buns from Van Maanen Bakery, along with healthy spreads. The mayor and the children could also choose from low-fat dairy products, tea, vegetables, and fruit. Healthy and delicious!
