Moped License

You need a moped license to ride a:

• moped
• scooter
• moped
• light vehicle
• quad
• trike and
• speed pedelec (bicycle with electric pedal assistance capable of speeds up to 45 kilometers per hour)

Starting at age 15.5, you can take the theory exam for a moped license. Starting at age 16, you may take driving lessons and take the practical exam.

No driving lessons or driving test required

If you have a car driver's license (Class B) or a motorcycle driver's license (Class A), the moped driver's license (Class AM) will be automatically added to your license.

Lost or Stolen Moped License

Have you lost your driver's license, or was it stolen?

• In that case, please report it online to the RDW first at . You will need a DigiD to do this.
  Don't have a DigiD? Then report the loss to your local municipality.
• Next, apply for a new driver's license at city hall. Bring a color passport photo and a valid form of identification.

• A clear, recent passport photo taken no more than 6 months prior to the date of application. This passport photo meets the requirements listed at .
• Cash or a debit card. You pay immediately when you submit your application.
• When applying for your first moped driver's license: a valid passport or a valid ID card.
• When renewing your moped license: the moped license you already have. If it is no longer valid, please also bring a valid passport or a valid ID card.

Pick up your moped license

You must pick up your moped license in person at city hall. You do not need to make an appointment. Be sure to bring your old moped license with you, if you have one.

• You can pick up your driver's license at city hall by appointment after 6 business days.
• If you submitted an urgent request before 12:00 p.m., you can pick it up after two business days.

Serious traffic violations committed while riding a moped also count toward the beginner's driver's license. You can find more information about this on the CBR website at .

If you have been deemed ineligible for a Class A or B driver's license for medical reasons, the AM category of the moped license will remain valid on your driver's license.
