Construction and renovation, inspection
The municipality checks to ensure that everyone who is building or renovating is following the rules. For example, it verifies that construction is being carried out in accordance with building codes and that a licence has been obtained for the renovation. The municipality also monitors noise, vibrations, and waste.
If you think that a construction or renovation project is not proceeding according to the rules, you can report this to the municipality.
How does it work?
Municipal inspectors conduct the inspection. They are authorized to:
- enter buildings without authorisation
- request information
- view business data and documents and make copies of them
- investigate matters, for example by opening packaging and taking items
Inspectors may never enter a residence without the residents' authorisation .
If the municipality determines that a construction or renovation project is not complying with the regulations, it has the authority to halt the work. The municipality may also restrict access to the building.

Notify the municipality if you suspect that a construction or renovation project is not complying with the rules.

With the entry into force of the Act on Quality Assurance in Construction ( Omgevingswet ), the phased implementation of the Wkb begins.
The Construction Quality Assurance Act (Wkb), also known simply as the Quality Assurance Act, transfers the responsibility for construction supervision ( supervision ) and the assessment of whether a structure meets structural requirements from the municipality to an independent party, known as the quality assurance body. This does not apply immediately to all structures, but will be implemented in phases.
