Tree Trail

Voorschoten is rich in greenery. It features many beautiful and sometimes old trees, both in parks and around historic country estates, as well as in residential neighborhoods and private gardens. Many of these trees are certainly worth a closer look. For this reason, the Association for the Preservation of Old, Green, and Livable Voorschoten compiled an updated tree route in 2015. This tree route was updated by the municipality of Voorschoten in 2022 and guides you past 50 prominent trees visible from or on the public road. This represents only a limited portion of the large variety of trees that Voorschoten has to offer. In total, there are approximately 11,250 trees in the municipality outside of forest areas. That is almost as many as there are housing units (11,500).

The tree route is laid out in and around the village center, with the Palestrinalaan and the Karel Doormanlaan as its endpoints. The total route is 7.5 km and can be completed in two parts: a northern section of 4 km and a southern section of 3.5 km. To make the trees easier to recognize, a tile has been placed in the pavement at the location of each described and numbered tree in this route, displaying the name and number of the tree.

The route is designed as a walking route, but can also be cycled. At certain locations (Ambachtspad, Zuster Anna Lambooplantsoen, Adegeestpark, and De Loozepad), you will need to walk your bicycle. At the bottom of this page, you can download the tree route.
