Tree Trail

Voorschoten is rich in greenery. It has many beautiful and sometimes ancient trees, both in the parks and around the old country estates, as well as in residential neighborhoods and private gardens. Many of these trees are certainly worth taking a closer look at. That is why the Association for the Preservation of Historic, Green, and Livable Voorschoten compiled a revised tree route in 2015. This tree route was updated by the municipality of Voorschoten in 2022 and takes you past 50 notable trees that can be seen from public roads. This is only a small selection of the wide variety of trees that Voorschoten is so rich in. In total, there are approximately 11,250 trees in the municipality outside of forested areas. That’s almost as many as there are residential units (11,500).

The tree route is mapped out in and around the village center, with Palestrinalaan and Karel Doormanlaan as its outermost points. The total route is 7.5 km and can be covered in two sections: a northern section of 4 km and a southern section of 3.5 km. To make it easier to identify the trees, a tile has been installed in the sidewalk at the location of each tree described and numbered along this tree route, bearing the tree’s name and number.

The route is designed as a walking trail, but can also be explored by bicycle. In some places (the Ambachtspad, the Zuster Anna Lambooplantsoen, the Adegeestpark, and the De Loozepad), you will need to walk your bike. You can download the tree trail at the bottom of this page.
