Beekeeping
You are not permitted to keep bees as a hobby or for professional purposes without authorization. Bees are protected animals and can cause nuisance in your local area. Therefore, it is prohibited to keep bees:
- within 30 metre of a residence or other buildings where people are present during the day (offices, schools)
- within 30 metre s of a public road
If you still wish to keep bees, you require an exemption from the municipality.
How does it work?
If you are granted an exemption to keep bees, the municipality may establish rules that you must adhere to.
The ban does not apply if you take adequate protective measures or if you are the owner of the surrounding buildings. Protective measures might include a barrier 2 metre that is located no more than 6 metre from the beehive or hive. This will prevent bees from flying in and out at low altitudes.
What to do?
- You apply for the exemption from the municipality.
- Include a situation sketch with a floor plan as part of your application.
- Also state in your application the number of bees and beehives or bee skeps involved.
