Beekeeping
You cannot simply keep bees as a hobby or for professional reasons. Bees are protected animals and can cause a nuisance in your neighborhood. It is therefore prohibited to keep bees:
- within 30 meters of a residence or other buildings where people are present during the day (offices, schools)
- within 30 meters of a public road
If you still want to keep bees, you'll need an exemption from the municipality.
How does it work?
If you are granted an exemption to keep bees, the municipality may establish rules that you must follow.
The ban does not apply if you take adequate protective measures or if you are the owner of the surrounding buildings. Protective measures might include a 2-meter barrier located no more than 6 meters from the beehive or hive. This will prevent bees from flying in and out at low altitudes.
What should I do?
- You must apply for the exemption with the municipality.
- Please include a site sketch with a floor plan with your application.
- Please also include in your application the number of bees and beehives or hives involved.
