Municipal Fund Allocation Provisionally Favorable for Voorschoten’s Budget
After Prinsjesdag, municipalities received the September circular from the Municipal Fund. The estimates show that Voorschoten will receive more money from the national government than anticipated. This is good news for the budget. However, future developments are so uncertain that it would not be wise to commit the additional funds just yet.
Municipalities receive funds from the national government through the Municipal Fund. They use these funds to cover the bulk of their expenditures. Based on the September circular, the municipality of Voorschoten has updated its estimates of expected revenue from the Municipal Fund. For now, the new estimates look favorable. As a result, the anticipated “year of crisis” in 2026 now appears to be shifting to 2027.
Wait for the administration's plans
“This is relatively good news,” explains Alderman Hans van der Elst. “However, we must note that there are many uncertainties surrounding revenue from the municipal fund. For example, the plans of the future cabinet will have a major impact on the long-term outlook. This makes the uncertainties so great that it would not be wise to allocate the additional budgetary flexibility to all sorts of new plans just yet.”
