Rosenburgh Cemetery has been renovated and is now a memorial park
Rosenburgh Cemetery has been renovated and expanded into a memorial park over the past few months. Councilman Hubert Schokker visited the improved Rosenburgh this afternoon. Together with colleagues from the Field Services Department, he planted one of the natural burial plots. In the new memorial park, residents can say goodbye to their loved ones in various ways.
Over the past few months, a great deal of work has been done to transform the cemetery into an impressive memorial park. The grounds have been redesigned, and space has been created for various types of burials. Residents can turn to Rosenburgh for a range of services. In addition to space for traditional burials, there is now also space for natural burials, urn burials, and burials for small pets and companion animals.
Councilmember Schokker: “For the residents of Voorschoten, the renovation and expansion of the new Rosenburgh Memorial Park is truly a boon. Thanks to the transition from a cemetery to a memorial park, Rosenburgh will remain an attractive final resting place in the future as well. Furthermore, we expect that the improvements and expansion of burial options will generate more revenue for the cemetery. This is necessary so that we can continue to invest more effectively in a beautiful facility for the residents and their loved ones.”
Animal Graves
Pet graves and natural graves are two of the new options available at Rosenburgh. Pet graves are plots designated for the burial of small companion animals. There is also the option to scatter the ashes of pets, such as dogs and cats, in a special pet scattering area following cremation.
Natural Burial
Choosing a natural burial can help preserve the Dutch natural environment. This is because the final resting place is permanent; the site will always remain part of nature. At Rosenburgh, the deceased can be laid to rest in a flower meadow or in a so-called “tree grave”—a grave marked by a tree. The bereaved can have a tree of their choice planted. Alternatively, they can opt for a tree disc made of untreated wood, which is placed on the natural grave. The name of the deceased is engraved on the tree disc.
Duration of the work
