Asian hornet: Do you know what to do?
The municipality has recently been receiving more reports and questions about the Asian hornet. Residents want to know what to do if they see a hornet or discover a nest. That is why we have created an information page explaining how to report sightings and the responsibilities involved in controlling the hornet population.
Have you seen an Asian hornet or a nest?
- Submit a report on Waarneming.nl. If it is safe to do so, take a clear photo and provide the location as accurately as possible. Even a sighting of a single hornet is valuable for tracking its spread in Map .
- Have you found a nest? If so, please report it to the municipality. Keep a distance of at least 5 metre and do not attempt to remove the nest yourself.
The municipality does not control the hornet infestation on its own
The municipality does not control the Asian hornet on its own. The management and potential removal of nests fall under the responsibility of, among others, the province of South Holland. The measures that can be taken vary depending on the location and situation.
