Scattering ashes
You can scatter the ashes of a deceased person. This is permitted on the open sea or in a designated scattering field. If you wish to scatter the ashes in another location, you require an exemption permit from the landowner.
How does it work?
Following a cremation, the ashes of the deceased are collected in an urn. This urn remains in the general niche of the crematorium for one month. During this month, you decide what you would like to do with the ashes.
You are not permitted to scatter the ashes on:
- paved roads
- a municipal cemetery
- crematorium grounds
- other locations where the municipality has prohibited this
Extra information
In addition to scattering the ashes, you can also choose to:
- keep them at home in a decorative urn
- take them abroad
- place the urn in a grave or a niche in a columbarium
- keep a portion of the ashes in a piece of jewelry or a glass object
