Scattering ashes
You may scatter the ashes of a deceased person. This may be done on the open sea or at a designated scattering site. If you wish to scatter the ashes elsewhere, you will need permission from the landowner.
How does it work?
After a cremation, the deceased’s ashes are collected in an urn. This urn remains in the crematorium’s general niche for one month. During this month, you decide what you want to do with the ashes.
You may not scatter the ashes on:
- the paved road
- a municipal cemetery
- crematorium grounds
- other locations where the municipality has prohibited this
Additional Information
In addition to scattering the ashes, you can also do the following with them:
- Keep it at home in a decorative urn
- take abroad
- to place the urn in a grave or a niche in an urn wall
- preserve a portion of the ashes in a piece of jewelry or a glass object
