Applause for the Proud Winners of the Voorschoten Awards

During a festive evening at the Kruispuntkerk, the Voorschoten Awards were presented for the third time. The proud winners received a traveling trophy in the categories of Culture, Sports, and Volunteering.

The winners and the aldermen on stage

Aldermen Hans van der Elst and Hubert Schokker presented the Voorschoten Awards. They did so in a packed Kruispuntkerk, alongside last year’s winners, family and friends of the nominees, and other interested attendees. Below are the winners by category, along with the jury’s rationale.

The entire volunteer team at Filmtheater Voorschoten, winner of the Culture category

“The volunteers at Filmtheater Voorschoten create a welcoming atmosphere and show genuine care for the visitors. They bring energy and enthusiasm to their work, which allows the film theater to continue showing beautiful, moving, entertaining, and exciting films. Whether it’s handling technical equipment, working the box office, or helping out at the bar—they just get it done! Without these volunteers, Filmtheater Voorschoten wouldn’t exist.”

Fons Schrijver, winner of the Sports category

“IT hero of the Voorschoten ’97 Soccer and Track & Field Club. He maintains systems, servers, and the sound system, and provides support during events—from the pub quiz and the Easter tournament to the track and field championships. Fons is one of those quiet forces who works tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the infrastructure up and running and to improve it. His work is crucial.”

Thea Zweers, winner of the Volunteer category

“It’s hard to believe just how active Thea (78) has always been—and still is—as a volunteer. In our village, there are probably very few people who don’t know her from somewhere. And she’s still unstoppable. Whenever De Zonnebloem is looking for a volunteer, she signs up right away and pays no attention to Dik, who keeps telling her she really needs to slow down. Not a chance—Thea enjoys it all way too much!”

About the Voorschoten Awards

Since 2023, the Voorschoten Awards have been held during the Weekend of Voorschoten. The awards were created to honor exceptional contributions in the areas of sports, culture, and volunteer work in Voorschoten and to recognize active residents.
