Address investigation

You can request an address investigation from the municipality in the following situations:

  • Someone is listed at your address enrolled who does not live there.
  • Someone has a mailing address at your residence and you can no longer reach that person.
  • Someone has a mailing address registered at your address, and you want to revoke your authorisation for that mailing address.

How does it work?

You can request an address investigation if you are the owner, tenant, or co-resident of the property. You can also cancel an address investigation.

What do I need?

  • Your valid ID.
  • Proof that you are the owner or tenant of the property, such as a purchase or lease agreement.
  • Do you know who this person is? If so, please also provide their name, date of birth, and telephone number.

How long does it take?

  • An address investigation takes a maximum of 12 weeks.
  • You will be notified of the outcome of the investigation.
  • After the investigation, the municipality may remove a person from the rolls or enrol at a new address.

Extra information

Improving the quality of address data (in the BRP) and combating address-related fraud are important. That is why the government has established a special initiative to address this issue.
