"Tree Seeks Garden" Campaign a Huge Success

The municipality is distributing 70 trees to residents during a pickup event.

The municipality of Voorschoten is committed to making the living environment greener. That is why the “Tree Seeks Garden” initiative was launched. Residents of Voorschoten have recently been able to order a tree for 25 euros through the municipality’s website. The municipality covered the remainder of the cost. Residents were able to pick up their trees during the pickup afternoon at Burgemeester van der Haarplein.

Erika Spil, Councilor for Sustainability, is pleased with the result:“It was really striking how enthusiastic residents are about this initiative. Every time we publicized it, the applications poured in.”The councilor was on hand to present the first tree to Reny and Reinart van Staalduine, who were the first participants to order their tree. They, too, were very pleased with the “Tree Seeks Garden” campaign. Reny van Staalduine read about the campaign in the newspaper and was eager to participate:“I was looking for a fruit tree that wasn’t too big. In the end, we settled on an Elstar apple tree.” The website featured a “tree menu” with 12 options, sorted by size. This helped participants make their choice.

By the end of the day, all the trees that had been laid out in the square had been picked up. Councilwoman Erika Spil has a message for everyone who missed the event:“We’d like to ask you to go ahead and remove a stone from your yard anyway. Every little bit helps in making Voorschoten greener.”
