Focus on Reading and Writing at Glazen Radiohuis in Leidschendam
Difficulty reading, writing, or navigating the internet. In the municipality of Voorschoten, about 7% of residents struggle with these basic skills. The Glazen Radiohuis is drawing attention to this issue. From Monday, September 23, through Thursday, September 26, anyone interested can watch the DJs produce live radio on Damlaan in Leidschendam. Alderman Paul de Bruijn will be at the Glazen Radiohuis on Monday, September 23.
Councilmember De Bruijn: “People who struggle with reading, writing, or math often find it difficult to use a computer or smartphone as well. Fully participating in society can sometimes be a challenge for them. For example, it can be hard to find a job or keep track of their finances. That’s why it’s still so important that we continue to focus on low literacy. With the Glazen Radiohuis and this Week of Reading and Writing, we’re taking a special moment to reflect on this issue.”
Low literacy
At the Glazen Radiohuis, various DJs are hosting broadcasts on the topic of low literacy. In addition to aldermen from the participating municipalities in the region, various organizations and language ambassadors are appearing as guests on the shows. The broadcasts can be viewed on Feel Good TV on Ziggo channel 43, at www.glazenradiohuis.nl and , and via DAB+ channels 5C and 11B. But passersby can also see and hear what’s happening inside at the Glazen Radiohuis, located at Damlaan 42 in Leidschendam.
