Keep an Eye on Your Wallet: Money Week Is Just Around the Corner

Having trouble saving regularly? Can you learn how to budget? And what about secure online banking—how does that work? These are the kinds of questions that take center stage during Money Week. From Monday, March 24, through Friday, March 28, we’ll be focusing extra attention on money matters and financial skills in Voorschoten.

In Voorschoten, more than 900 households occasionally experience financial stress. Nearly 700 households are struggling with chronic debt. Young people, too, are increasingly struggling with money problems. During the upcoming Money Week, local organizations in Voorschoten—such as Voorschoten voor Elkaar and the library—are encouraging residents to take charge of their finances and address their financial concerns.

Wide range of activities

During the campaign week themed “How do you make your financial dreams come true?”, various organizations are hosting a wide range of activities. Residents can visit Voorschoten Voor Elkaar and its youth services, the library, the Boschbloem activity center, and the Filmhuis for interesting workshops, consultation hours for help with (tax) forms, delicious food, and a good movie. All activities are free, unless otherwise noted. For the full calendar of events, visit the Voorschoten Voor Elkaar website at.

Talking About Your Financial Dreams

During Money Week, Aldermen Hans van der Elst and Paul de Bruijn will be giving guest lessons at several elementary schools in Voorschoten. “During these guest lessons, we’ll discuss with the students how to make good financial choices,” says Alderman Paul de Bruijn. “We also discuss how to make your financial dreams a reality. After all, how do you go about that wisely? Managing money is quite a complex topic. That’s why it’s important for children to learn how to handle money from a young age—not only to prevent them from running into financial trouble as early as high school, but especially because it will benefit them for the rest of their lives.”
