Important Information

A monument subsidy can only be applied for by the owner of a national monument, municipal monument, characteristic building, or culturally historically
valuable structure, building, or object located within the protected cityscape and designated as such through the heritage ordinance or in a cultural history double destination in the
zoning plan.


Subsidy is not granted if the monument is owned by the State of the Netherlands, the municipality, the province, or other government institutions.

Owner is also understood to mean:

  • the person who holds the right of superficies;
  • the holder of a right of superficies;
  • the usufructuary;
  • the entitled party to an apartment right;
  • the future owner, leaseholder, holder of a right of superficies, 
  • usufructuary, or entitled party to an apartment right;
  • the person who holds the right of ownership. 

Important attachments and documents to have ready digitally.

  • Quotation for drawing up an inspection report, sustainability report or repurposing report (and, if necessary, additional documents with a description or substantiation);
  • Monumentenwacht architectural inspection report;
  • Drawings (floor plans, elevations, cross-sections, existing and new details)
  • An overview of the nature and scope of the proposed activities and a description of the intended results, preferably aligning with the Guidelines for the Maintenance of Subsidized Maintenance Costs. The Guidelines are based on the same coding as the STABU;
  • A specified budget of costs, preferably also aligning with the Guideline for the maintenance of subsidisable maintenance costs. The Guideline is based on the same coding as the STABU.
