Important Information

A historic preservation grant may only be applied for by the owner of a national historic monument, a municipal historic monument, a landmark building, or a structure, building, or object of cultural-historical value
located within a protected village landscape and designated as such under the heritage ordinance or with a dual designation for cultural history in the
zoning plan.


A grant will not be awarded if the monument is owned by the State of the Netherlands, the municipality, the province, or other government agencies.

The term “owner” includes (among others):

  • the person who holds the right of superficies;
  • the holder of a right of superficies;
  • the usufructuary;
  • the holder of a condominium interest;
  • the future owner, leaseholder, or holder of a right of superficies, 
  • usufructuary or holder of a condominium interest;
  • the person who holds the right of ownership. 

Important attachments and documents to have ready in digital form.

  • Quote for the preparation of an inspection report, sustainability report, or repurposing report (and, if necessary, additional documents, including descriptions or supporting information);
  • Monumentenwacht Structural Inspection Report;
  • Drawings (floor plans, elevations, cross-sections, details of existing and new elements)
  • An overview of the nature and scope of the proposed work and a description of the intended results, preferably in line with the Guidelines for Eligible Conservation Costs. The Guidelines are based on the same coding system as STABU;
  • A detailed cost estimate, preferably one that also aligns with the Guidelines for Eligible Conservation Costs. The Guidelines are based on the same coding system as STABU.
