You are not allowed to let pigeons fly out at any time you choose. This is because, in the spring, wild pigeons often cause damage to farmers’ fields. For this reason, the municipality may designate a period during which you must keep your pigeons indoors, so that hunters can cull the wild pigeon population. This period may last a week, but it could also be, for example, one day per week. The municipality consults with racing pigeon associations about this in advance. You can apply to the municipality for an exemption if you wish to let your pigeons fly outside of these times.Â
