Important Information

You can request a certificate of life from the municipality. This is a written document issued by the municipality confirming that a person is still alive. You may need this, for example, if your insurance company or pension fund requests it. You should request a certificate of life from the municipality where you are registered.

Note: Free of charge if a letter from the pension fund is provided that explicitly states that the certificate is exempt from fees. This also applies to the international form.

Good to know:

  • A certificate of life is valid in: the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire, Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius, and Saba.
  • If you need to prove that you are alive in another country, apply for a certificate of life, also known as an international certificate of life.
Please note: You must apply for a certificate of residence in person at the municipality. This cannot be done online.
