VS-1039-12 Emigrating, Moving Abroad with eID (eIDAS)

If you are moving abroad for more than 8 months, you must deregister with the municipality. You can deregister in two ways: online or at city hall. You can only deregister online if all residents of the address are moving abroad at the same time. If you live with several other people at the same address and not everyone is moving abroad, then only the people who are moving with you need to visit city hall in person. This also applies to children under the age of 18.

Good to know:

• Notify the municipality at least 5 days before your departure.
• Emigration means moving abroad for an extended period of time. This means that, within a one-year period, you will live abroad for at least 8 months.
• This period does not have to be continuous.

Who can report the move?

• Anyone who is 16 years of age or older.
• Parents, guardians, or caregivers of children under the age of 16.
• Parents for their adult child or children living at home (only if the parents and children who live together move abroad).
• Spouses who live at the same address and registered partners can do this for each other (only if you move abroad together).
• An adult child for his or her parents (only if the child and the parents live together and move abroad together).
• The guardian of a person who has been placed under guardianship.

The municipality kindly asks you to provide:

• If applicable, the names and dates of birth of family members who are emigrating with you.
• Your old address.
• Your new address.
• The date of emigration.

Note:

• A declaration of a move abroad cannot be filed by an authorized representative.
  

• You will be deregistered on the day you submit your change of address (not on your actual departure date).
  

• The municipality cannot print an extract containing departure data after the day of departure. You can request one at anon-resident registration desk.
