Important Information

As a citizen, business, or organization, you may use public land. This could include, for example, placing a trash container, a scaffold, a construction trailer, or a portable toilet, or storing construction materials such as sand, gravel, stones, and so on. You must apply for a permit or file a notification for this purpose.

Notification or permit?

Permit

You must apply for a permit if the use is considered large-scale. Large-scale use is defined as:

  • for areas of 16 m² or more
  • with a width of 2.50 meters or more

Costs:

The cost of the permit is listed in the Fee Ordinance. In addition, you must also pay a special tax; see the Special Tax Ordinance.

Report

For minor use, simply filing a report is sufficient.

  • for areas up to 15 m²
  • with a width of less than 2.50 m

Costs:

You are required to pay a public space tax; see the Public Space Tax Ordinance.

Good to know:

  • You must apply for the permit 8 weeks in advance.
  • Please submit your notification 2 weeks in advance.
  • If you are filing the report on behalf of an organization or company, please have the relevant information ready.
  • If you have a sketch of the situation, please have it ready in digital form.
  • Please provide the dimensions and width of the object to be installed.
  • We also ask for the exact location and time frame for the object to be installed.
