VS-1039-1 Emigrating (Reporting a Move Abroad) with DigiD

If you are leaving the country for more than 8 months, you must deregister with the municipality. You can do this in several ways: online or at city hall. You can only report your departure from the Netherlands online if all residents of the address are emigrating at the same time. If you live with other people at the same address and not everyone is moving with you, everyone who is moving with you must visit the municipal office in person. This also applies to children under the age of 18.

Good to know:

• You must notify the municipality of your departure at least 5 days in advance.
• You are considered to have emigrated if you spend at least 8 months abroad within a 1-year period.
• These 8 months do not have to be consecutive.

Who can report an emigration?

• Anyone who is 16 years of age or older.
• Parents, guardians, or caregivers of children under the age of 16.
• Parents for their adult child or children living at home (only if the parents and their children living at home move abroad together).
• Spouses or registered partners living together (only if the spouses or partners move abroad together).
• Adult children living with a parent or parents (only if adult children living at home and their parent or parents move abroad together).
• The guardian for a person who has been placed under guardianship.

To ensure better and faster service, the municipality requests, at a minimum:

• If applicable, the names and dates of birth of family members who are emigrating with you.
• Your old address.
• Your new address.
• The date of emigration.

Please note!

• It is not possible for an authorized representative to report a move abroad.

• You will be deregistered on the day you report your move (not on your actual move-out date).

• The municipality cannot print an extract containing departure information after the day of departure. You can only do this at one of the RNI service counters.
